Project organization and management
The Institute of Archaeology in Iceland, on behalf of the
Þingvellir Commission, undertakes archaeological excavation at Þingvellir. Excavations will also be carried out at selected district assembly sites around the country in 2002-2006.
The Þingvellir Commission provides on-site facilities at Þingvellir for the excavation and measurements team, as well as handling local promotion of the research activities.
The Institute of Archaeology in Iceland, The University of Iceland, The National Museum of Iceland, The University of Bradford and The Department of Geography at City University of NY provide facilities for processing and research.
The project is lead by Adolf Friðriksson and Sigurður Líndal. Adolf Friðriksson is responsible for the execution of project as a whole, as well as supervising field activities and the archaeological aspect of the research. Sigurður Líndal supervises research of source material and judicial history. Hið íslenska bókmenntafélag (The Icelandic Literary Society) handles the publication of the research results.
