People have been throwing coins into Flosagjá for over a 100 years. That´s why it is called “Money ravine”.  Last Saturday two tourists were seen fetching money from the ravine.    They felt it was a complete waste of money throwing it into the deep water below the brigde as touristsSpeglun í Flosagjá have done for around hundred years.  Park rangers on the scene asked them to stop and return the money into the rift.  After some discussion the tourists did so with regret.

The water is icecold around 3-4 degrees celsius (38-40 fahrenheit) all year round and can be dangerous for those who try to wade or swim.  Diving is prohibited in the rift.  There is no special folklore linked to Money ravine, but the money in the ice-cold water can be viewed as symbolic of the treasure the water has become.
