Few times a year, usually in the spring and in the autumn
the Öxará river floods. Due to heavy rain in the recent days the river has been growing. The river runs through the Almannagjá rift before running through the ancient assembly site. On its way through rift the water is pressed down into small fissures and cracks finding its way through the rockwall. Along the lower wall of the rift water can be seen appearing from the ground where it normally doesn´t flow. Sometimes the water can have minor impact on the trails in area.
