THE PRESIDENT OF ICELAND AND THE FIRST LADY VISITING THINGVELLIR
The president of Iceland Mr. Guðni Th. Jóhannesson and the First Lady, Eliza Jean Reid, visited Thingvellir national park this morning. The visit was the first one on their day long tour through the municipality Blaskogabyggd which celebrates 15 years aniversary today. They were greeted by the chair of the Thingvellir commission and member of parliament Vilhjálmur Árnason and Ólafur Örn Haraldsson director of Thingvellir national park as well as other staff.
During the walk through the rift Almannagjá the president was briefed on the different challenges the management of Thingvellir national park faces with ever increasing number of tourists. From Thingvellir the tour continued towards Laugarvatn and Reykholt which are the main villages in the municipality with many stops along the way.
