SNOW REMOVAL ON HIKING TRAILS
For travellers visiting Iceland in wintertime the weather can provide different challenges both for driving and hiking. The roads to Thingvellir national park are ploughed five times a week excluding Tuesdays and Saturdays and it is advised to check road and weather conditions before heading out.
At Thingvellir national park the main hiking routes at the assembly site are ploughed and sanded everyday during the winter.
This map shows the hiking trails which are ploughed clear of snow and sanded. Despite this maintenance caution is advised while hiking these trails in wintertime.
