The Environmental Policy of the Thingvellir National Park was approved by the Thingvellir Committee to ensure that the internal work of the national park is in accordance with the management plan of the park and to make sure that the actions of the park are environmentally responsible.
The making of the environmental policy took into account the nature and extent of the work which takes place within the park and its environmental effect measured against its sustainability. The policy was based on an extensive analysis on the work of the park its environmental consequences. It is an annex and a further extenions of the management plan 2004-2024 for the national park.
The management plan for the park highlights the conservation issues for the park as a whole but the environmental policy is directed to the day to day management issues of the park.
