Icelandic sheep

The Icelandic sheep has been with Icelanders since settlement.

The Icelandic sheep is a magnificent creature that has lived with the country's inhabitants since settlement in the 9th century. Food, clothing and shelter have been obtained from it, but wads of the sheep's wool were used for tenting camps for those attending the assembly from 930 - 1798.
Sheep herding of have been done through out the centuries in the autumn. Sheep herding will be done in the countryside west of Þingvellir national park on both Saturday and Sunday. This might affect traffic on roads 36, 360, and 48.
