King Harald V of Norway commemorated

Þingvellir National Park commemorates King Harald V of Norway, who passed away during the night. Harald made his first official visit as king in September 1992, together with his wife, Queen Sonja of Norway. The royal couple walked from Hakið viewpoint , down through Almannagjá gorge, and on to church Þingvallakirkja. The official reception was hosted by Ms. Vigdís Finnbogadóttir and Davíð Oddsson.

Following Harald’s passing, flags are being flown at half-mast in Þingvellir National Park at the request of the Prime Minister’s Office.
