Official Visit from Ursula von der Leyen

National Park director Einar Á. E. Sæmundsen walks with Prime Minister Kristrún Frostadóttir, EU Commissioner Ursula von der Leyen, and Foreign Minister Þorgerður Katrín Gunnarsdóttir in Almannagjá.

EU Commissioner Ursula von der Leyen made an official visit to Iceland this week. One part of the visit was to visit the national park at Þingvellir. She was greeted by Einar Á. E. Sæmundsen the national park´s director, who guided Ursula von der Leyen, Kristrún Frostadóttir and Þorgerði Katrín Gunnarsdóttir around Þingvellir.

The tour started at the viewing platform at Hakið, from there they headed down Almannagjá to Lögberg and then ended at the Þingvellir farmstead which is the prime ministers official resident.

The story of the old assembly site was told, which is marked in many ways by the powerful movements of the tectonic plates that have shaped the area

The weather was kind and mild in Icelandic standards.
